An learning event entitled Making the Transition from Management to Leadership, run by Meetings Professional International (MPI) UK, will take place at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel & Conference Centre in London on 23 June.

This session, which will be delivered by  leadership methodologist Paul Bridle, will look at the defining characteristics and competencies of a manager and that of a leader.

Voted 12th in the Top Most Influential Leadership Gurus in the World in 2007 and 2008, Bridle has spent almost two decades studying effective organisations and the leadership behind them. His personal research means that he gives practical ideas and examples of best global practice.

Bridle will be addressing whether effective managers and leaders have to be good at the functional level and if being good at the functional level mean they will be good at managing or leading, while examining the difference in skill set needed.

The seminar is aimed at those people who are interested in making, or have recently made, the transition from a management role into one of leadership. Attendees should walk away from the session being able to identify what their team or organisation needs from them as a manager and what their organisation or team need from them as a leader. It should also help attendees allocate their own skills in a way that increases effectiveness and recognises their key strengths as a leader. Finally, they should also emerge equipped to define a management and leadership strategy for their team or organisation.

The event is open to MPI members, for free, and to non-members, for £85.
