The rising popularity of educational establishments as event venues is highlighted by The University of Leeds proposed £28 million redevelopment of its campus-based Charles Morris Hall, taking a step nearer reality with the appointment of architects to design the building which will provide high-tech facilities for more than 550 guests.

Manchester-based architects Sheppard Robson are now underway with plans for the site with work expected to begin later this summer for completion in time for the new academic year in September 2009.

Commercial development manager at the University of Leeds, David Meli said: “We are delighted that after lots of research and discussion we are now at the stage where we have the architects on board and can start looking at designs for the building. It’s going to be a marvellous facility offering the very best accommodation right in the heart of University.

“It will complement the newly refurbished state-of-the-art refectory and the swimming pool, which will be completed around the same time, both of which are just a stone’s throw from Charles Morris Hall. The combination of these three, together with our high quality meeting facilities will make the University a very attractive venue for event organisers and their customers.”
