OPINION Sarah Farrugia: The latest Hollywood blockbuster?
26/06/2009 by Sarah Farrugia
The head of Sarah Farrugia & Co joins a host of stars on the set of a new movie based on the events industry.
The Organiser is a new film to be released in the Autumn from Oliver Stone. It’s starring Kevin Spacey as a local man in Illinois who runs an event. He’s the one that gets all the people together, organises the hall and the catering, and sends out the tickets.
He puts all the chairs out, gets the microphones right, panders to the people who show up, sends out the customer service responses, despatches flowers to the talent, and basically makes it all happen.
His boss is played by Merryl Streep, who sweeps in with her creative team, and just expects that Kevin will deliver, as usual. She has the big lunches and decides on the theme. She has all the fun and then Kevin just has to make it happen.
Apparently, it’s a thriller with a great twist. I’m looking forward to it and can’t wait to find out how it ends.
Sadly, however, the movie won’t be reviewed by Jonathan Ross on Film 2009, because it doesn’t really exist – apart from in my own imagination, that is.
Made you think though, didn’t it?
Why? Because it was interesting.
It made you think about the people involved, their lives and about yourself.
It made you join the dots about what Kevin might feel about Merryl, about how things might progress. You were drawn into the story.
My question is: does your event tell a story to its audiences – one that draws them in?
Do you have a point of view? If not, why not?
It’s the only way to stand out, be remarkable, and to get people’s interest, commitment, time and even money.
Who knows, perhaps you could even write a script for Oliver Stone, because The Organiser sounds like a really good film, don’t you think?
