ITM launches ICARUS Environmental Awards 2009/10
24/07/2009 by Ian Whiteling, Joint Editor in Chief
The Institute of Travel & Meetings (ITM) UK and Ireland has announced the running of its environmental supplier awards programme for the third consecutive year despite a continued focus on cost cutting by the travel & meetings community.
The ICARUS Environmental Awards are designed to recognise leadership and innovation by the travel and meeting supplier community as part of the association’s work through Project ICARUS, the global business travel and meetings industry’s most renowned corporate responsibility project.
For the 2009/10 awards, the association has added a new category, the Best Project Award, which is a revision of the Corporate Team and Consultancy categories.
Previous years’ winners have included CWT, BA, Eurostar, easyJet, HRG and PwC.
Entries are once again to be judged by a panel of academics and industry experts specialising in environmental reduction in the travel and meetings sector. The panel will be chaired by Dr Keith Mason of Cranfield University’s Business Travel Research Centre, a member of the group that leads and directs ICARUS.
“At a time like this it is incredibly important to recognise those companies who have continued to invest in products, which will reduce emissions from companies undertaking travel and meetings,” said ITM chief executive Paul Tilstone.
“These products can save money as well as emissions, but when the economy returns you can be sure that those who have put CSR to one side will find it back on the agenda fast. Anyone continuing to drive down emissions in the present climate deserves to be recognised especially. ”
The deadline for notification of entry for the awards is 14 August.
