Shanghai's 1933 will be launched later this spring as the newest events venue in town.
A total of 32,500 square meters of indoor and outdoor areas across four former factory buildings will be able to cater for a wide range of events activities. A 1,535sqm 'theatre-in-the-round' occupies the top three levels of the main building featuring an expansive glass stage under a steel dome. This large, theatrical space has been fitted with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems and is serviced by a 3.5-tonne industrial lift capable of ferrying a car, making it ideal for events requiring dramatic visual impact, such as fashion shows and product launches.
1933 is part of a 1.2sqkm urban development plan by the Hongkou District Government to revitalize the historic district. Hongkou's heritage as a cultural and intellectual epicenter, home to writers and revolutionaries such as Lu Xun and Qu Qiubai as well as expatriates and Jewish refugees, will be resurrected as the area becomes a vibrant, creative neighbourhood for the 21st century. 1933 is located near the major thoroughfares of Sichuan Beilu and Haining Lu, directly adjacent to the North Bund.
