The Association of British Professional Conference Organises (ABPCO) has added to its member benefits by launching a complimentary VAT Helpline in conjunction with chartered accountants Saffery Champness.

Professional conference organisers (PCOs) are constantly challenged by other countries’ VAT regimes and by the differing interpretations of VAT regulations. To assist its members, ABPCO has arranged the provision of practical advice and assistance to deal with the complications that VAT can bring. The helpline will be run by David Bennett, travel VAT partner with Saffery Champness (www.saffery.com). Bennett is already well known to ABPCO members, having already presented several seminars on VAT and related topics to them.

“We see this as a very important new member benefit,” commented Lesley Maltman, chair of ABPCO and managing director of MCI Belfast. “The legislation surrounding VAT is complex and continues to change, and we are really pleased to offer members free professional advice from an acknowledged expert.”

Meanwhile, Bennett said: “I am delighted to be able to offer this service to ABPCO members. VAT is a difficult area for many PCOs and, via the helpline, I hope that I will be able to assist members deal with their VAT issues and also to spot opportunities.”
