Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) recently won the title of Best Convention Centre at India’s National Tourism Awards 2006-07.

Opening in January 2006 with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas event, HICC has since attracted a number of national and international events, including Asian Development Bank’s 39th AGM in 2006, Bancon 2006, the World Map Congress 2006, the International Astronautical Congress in 2007, the National Opthalmological Meet 2007, the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 2007, the Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive & Sexual Health in 2007, Suntec Days in 2007 and 2008, and Bioasia in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

The new international airport at Shamshabad has certainly helped HICC’s aim to become a major focus for meetings, conferences and events, and it appears there is little to stop the venue going from strength to strength in a country with a burgeoning events industry.

“This recognition comes as a real delight to us,” said HICC general manager Phillip Logan. “HICC not only offers the best infrastructure for meetings and conferences, but by virtue of being the first mover, we have also acquired the best skill sets required to run a convention centre in the country. This acknowledgement from the Ministry of Tourism will further boost us to do the best.”
